Pablo Neruda Valentine's Day Cards

Your easy-peasy way to get Valentine's Day out of the way-- or at least the card portion of it.

In hindsight, I should've known. It started going downhill when I decided to make Valentine's Day card designs under the bright fluorescent lights of the library with my computer on max brightness. I was studying with a friend and as I was making the card designs, he looked over at my screen, emblazoned in bold, capital letters the words of Pablo Neruda, "I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where". We both looked at each other and went back to work.

I got odd stares, too from passerby and with each passing minute, my screen brightness decreased. Soon, my screen was black and I decided to abandon my project until I got back to my room.

Good call.

Pablo Neruda is one of my favorite poets and since Valentine's Day (or Galentine's Day, depending on how you're feeling) is coming up, I thought I'd share a couple of printable cards for you and your friends. Penguin Classics has a great collection of his love poems in a dual-language format, which I love.

To be honest, I've never really liked Spanish class in my six years of taking the class. I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not cut out for languages but if there are two things that I am thankful for it's my ability to read Spanish and the introduction to Spanish literature that the classes gave me.

For those who are curious, the line is from Sonnet XVII. I went to print these out early in the morning on the weekend so I could avoid the long lines and shoot these during the early rays of the morning. I woke up somewhat bizarrely at 7am without an alarm and I did some work for a bit before grabbing a bunch of things somewhat haphazardly.

Also, because I'm a sucker for puns, I made a Valentine's Day pun card since no one can pass up on a pun (my friends all shake their heads when I say this because I think secretly, they've all had enough of my bad jokes). Haters gonna hate, hate, hate because I think puns and corny jokes are just the jam.

Olive You Valentine's Day Cards

This was a really fun project to put together and I hope you enjoyed these cards as much as I enjoyed shooting (and eating it)!
