California + Update

According to Blogger, my last post was the day before April Fool's, which was a little over a month ago. It seems like a bad April Fool's joke to take a hiatus, but I ended up taking one... starting on April 1st. Tests seemed to pop up all over the place and soon, I found myself in the finals week crunch.

It's finally over, I'm happy to say! I jaunted off to California to visit family and maybe friends (who seem to be equally as busy, sigh) as well as get some work done. The work never stops, does it?

California is the still place that I remembered from last year when I also went, and a little more. This time though, I'm taking it a lot more slowly and relaxing a lot more. I went to Costco for the first time (I've only been to Sam's Club before) and ate some fresh fruit off the fruit trees in the yard, which is always exciting. Can I just move here already?

I'm currently reading Jennifer E. Smith's The Geography of You and Me, which is a YA novel about a power outage in NYC, love (it is Jennifer E. Smith, after all) and traveling. Two of my favorite things (who loves power outages, anyway?). I'm excited to be back blogging because I've missed it so much and to be commenting again. I can't imagine how many unread Feedly articles I've amassed in the past month, but I'll work on it. So, if you any comment alerts for blog posts from a month ago, it's probably me. Most definitely me.

What happened in the past month for you? What new things are you looking forward to?

  1. Welcome back! I was wondering where you ran of to. California sounds lovely. I haven't been back in years, but I've been itching to travel again soon. The last month was crazypants for me, too. I finished up another semester of classes & student teaching. It's been nice the past week not to worry about that. However, there's a storm brewing on the horizon and I'll be back to stress-mode before I can even say R-E-L-A-X.

  2. So good to see you again! I was getting a little worried there, but then saw a tweet pop up a week or two ago saying you were still alive and you would be coming back so I felt a little better!

I've never been to California, but my mom went last year and was really upset when she had to come back. Said she absolutely loved it. Fresh fruit off trees sounds quite lovely though. Move over there and then let me stay with you! :P

Nothing too exciting has been going on for me since you were last around. I've pretty much been swamped with assessments. Luckily for me I had most of my blog posts prepped in advance, and the Bookish Games are going on, so no one has really been able to tell (except for my huge delay responding to comments). It's finally died down now, so yippee!

  4. I'm happy you're back! We've all missed you but it's good you took some time off for yourself! And first time in Costco? Tell me you had their fries -- they're the best!

  5. I didn't blog myself for about three weeks in April myself 'cause I was in a book reviewing slump.

Looking forward to your thoughts on The Geography of You and Me and though, no one loves power outage, I always seem to remember that one Friends NYC power outage episode with Joey in it. Ha ha classic.

Glad to have you back! Enjoy the sun and all the fruits. =)

  6. Yay!! I'm glad you're back :) I totally understand the need to take some time off. I'm about finished with the semester and have been really sporadic about blogging for the last two weeks because I'm exhausted. I'm SO happy you're enjoying The Geography of You and Me! I loveeee that back.

  7. I'm so envious of you, mostly because of the California trip, not the finals thing. Ughh, I hate finals. *shudders* But California must be great, and I'm really interesting in going there. I just don't have the funds. >.< If only traveling was cheap. But oh well, I'm glad to hear you're back!

  9. Sometimes you totally need to take a hiatus - wasn't it oh so freeing in a way. I hardly remember what life was like before blogging. I live in California ...marvelous weather if you're a summer lover. I'm a winter person though.

  10. Thanks! California was amazing. It's crazy how fast everything passes by, right? I hope you'll be able to relax soon and that the stress isn't too bad! Drink some chamomile tea if it gets bad, though. :D

  11. California is amazing! It's just dry heat which is nice since I'm used to 90 degree summers with humidity, bleh.

I'm happy that you were able to stay on top of everything! You go, girl!

  16. Haha, I enjoyed the warm weather because I'm so used to freezing cold temperatures. Hiatuses are great for relaxing, I think.

  17. YEEESSSS. You're back! You have been missed, Alice-Jane!

I was without internet for two and a half weeks in April. WORST EVERRRRRR. I'm forever in a reading slump, which is horrible. :\ I'm hoping to get back on the reading horse. ;D
