Creative Spaces// Cee from The Novel Hermit

I really appreciated the feedback I got from the first installment of Creative Spaces and I'm so happy that you like the feature! The second installment of Creative Spaces is Cee from The Novel Hermit's. I love talking to Cee about fonts, which is something we both love, and just anything in general.

A little about herself...

I am Cee. I run The Novel Hermit. You might know me as the person who shouts a lot about books, fonts, and narwhals. This is the desk I work from a lot. It’s not really like a traditional desk (in a way) and it’s pretty boring.

Creative Spaces: Cee from The Novel Hermit
Her workspace...
Its original use was not for anything desk related. It was one of those tables that you’d set your television on. (Can you tell?) It used to belong to my sister, who decided to move it out of her room (because she rarely watched TV in the first place, and was getting a new dresser and bookshelf) to mine because apparently, my room was big enough to store her crap. Luckily, I didn’t mind. I was in need of a new desk because my previous ones didn’t offer a lot of table space. I love it! It has wheeeeellllsss! I can move it wherever I want, which is why I work from my bed. The thing that sucks about the desk is that there’s no leg room because of the cabinet below. :\ I either have to sit on my legs or put my legs to the side, which isn't that ideal.

On the top surface of my desk, I have my trusty laptop. Behind the laptop, my books are stacked nicely for me to gaze lovingly at it. Other miscellaneous like my hair tie, chapstick, and desk light sit on the desk as well. I don’t have any trinkets (other than a couple of coins) to decorate the desk because things always gets knocked off my table and I hate picking it up. That’s the downside of having a desk that isn’t situated against the wall.

Right underneath the surface is like my shelf space. I store any other necessities there like my notepads, external hard drives, ARCs I will be reading, a speaker from an old computer, and a jar of peanut butter. Anything, really. When the surface gets cluttered, I move things to the shelf.

That is my desk. It's not the most pretty or exciting of desks, but it fits my needs and it has wheeeeeeeellllllsssss. (Yes, I had to write that again.)

I'd like to thank Cee for taking the time to write this post and take photos of her desk. I love how her workspace is unconventional and that she has a jar of Skippy peanut butter around. Her light's pretty neat, too! Cee says, about it, "Look at that beauty. I can situate it anywhere because it's so flexible."

Do you work from an unconventional workspace? What's the story behind your desk?

  1. I love Cee's curtain! The colour *O* It's pretty awesome that she can move the table around but gah no leg space D; I was in that situation for a period of time and it's just the worst. The jar of peanut butter is awesome.

  2. The wheels would be a definite benefit! Though I think the leg space would get to me eventually! I have a standard desk I do *some* work from, but I definitely have an unconventional work space I use for more creative endeavors--my closet! I have two closets in my room, and one has a shelf that's at perfect height to place my laptop on, so I use it as a standing desk sometimes when I get tired of sitting(since I also have a desk job).
Also, the jar of peanut butter made me laugh. Snacks are essential for a creative space!

So clean! So tidy! I love the lamp, and yes, piles of books are very important for staring purposes.

  4. Haha I love that you have a jar of peanut butter with you! I'm not much of a pb person but I would definitely have Nutella with me! I love your desk, it's so cute! I don't think I could keep it as neat and tidy as you do because I have so much crap that even my gigantic desk cannot hold it all! And I spot a copy of Winger! It's on my desk as well :)

  5. I love that you keep a jar of peanut butter close by hahahha. It would be so cool to have a moving desk! Like, you could move in front of the tv or to your bed or in front of a window or anywhere really! And that curtain thing is SO CUTE. That's the first thing that caught my eye. Like I said last time, I love this feature!

  6. Oh I want a wheel-y table too so that I can work from my bed! But yes I definitely need leg space.

Loving this feature, Alice-Jane! And thanks for sharing this with us, Cee! XD

  7. I know right? I was in a similar position and I was bothered by the lack of legroom since I'm tall-ish at 5'8"/173 cm. The peanut butter is awesome!

  9. Right? I'm totally jealous of how Cee's desk has so much less clutter than mine. I tried, haha.

  13. Oh I love stacking my books so that I may gaze lovingly upon them. Most of the time, though, the diamond novels are intermingled with inches-thick textbooks. (They're the "rough" in this metaphor.)

Great post! Love the pics and the insight! Wheeled tables FTW! Thank you for sharing. :)
