I recently received another ARC in the mail. (For me, everything is recently, as I have no time to blog even though its summer.) This one, is a part of a light book novels that are phenomenally popular in Japan. It has spawned manga, anime etc. The title is The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya, which is the second in the series. (It was preceded by The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.)
Although its narrated by a guy, Kyon, it's centered on a normal seeming school girl, Haruhi Suzumiya. She's normal, or so she seems. She has a bad temper, wants to get her way and never listens to anyone. So why does Kyon narrate? He got dragged into her club (SOS Brigade) with some others from their high school. Haruhi randomly chose people, who turned out to have special abilities, except for Kyon. Their main goal is to keep an eye on Haruhi, a god, with powers that could change the world. Haruhi isn't aware of this, and the others intend to keep it that way. The series follows their adventures. Each novel is just like the Japanese version, illustrated with color inserts.
This book, follows Haruhi, Kyon and the rest of the gang during their upcoming school festival. Haruhi decides to film a movie for the school festival, and once her mind is made, no one can stop her. When she decides that reality should be like her movie however, mysterious things start to happen. Can the gang reverse the effects without telling Haruhi in time to save the world? Read the book which comes out, October 2009.
